Digital Radar: Transforming Modern Detection and Sensing Systems

Digital radar has emerged as a cornerstone technology in modern sensing and surveillance systems, offering enhanced accuracy, flexibility, and data processing capabilities compared to traditional analog radar systems. By leveraging digital signal processing (DSP) techniques, digital radar systems convert received signals into digital data, enabling advanced analysis, improved target detection, and seamless integration with modern communication and control networks.

Understanding Digital Radar Technology

At its core, digital radar operates by transmitting electromagnetic waves toward a target and analyzing the reflected signals to determine key parameters such as range, velocity, direction, and size. Unlike analog radar, which processes signals in their original continuous form, digital radar converts these signals into digital formats using analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). This digital conversion allows complex algorithms to be applied for filtering noise, enhancing signal clarity, and extracting detailed target information.
